We enable innovation in textiles. From concept to industrialization. Your idea is our challenge.
What is LAB1887?
LAB1887 is Jakob Müller's innovation and development LAB — a space where textile ideas become reality. Here, we support you in implementing textile innovations efficiently, practically, and in a market-oriented manner.
Who is it for?
For brands, manufacturing companies, partners, engineers, researchers, students, and innovators – For anyone who is ready to explore new possibilities.
Why did we build it?
LAB1887 is our promise not to leave textile innovation to chance – but to actively shape it. For our customers. For the market. For the future of the industry. Discover more in our short video.

About LAB1887
A brief insight into the LAB and a few words about its creation.

We’ve learned a lot in more than 130 years and now it’s time to share, try, and question things again.

We’ve learned a lot in 130 years and now it’s time to share, try, and question things again.
Jakob Müller –
Since 1887
Jakob Müller has been building textile machinery for over 130 years.
What started in a Swiss workshop in 1887 has grown into a global company that quietly powers industries. From straps and labels to ropes and technical webbings.
We’ve stayed independent and family-owned through five generations.
And while the machines we build have evolved, our purpose hasn’t: to support the people who use them, and the products they make.
LAB1887 continues that story. It opens up what’s usually hidden and invites others to experiment, collaborate, and move things forward with us.
1887
The year it all started. Built on generations of engineering.
5
Generations of family ownership, with a long-term view.
700+
Employees around the world. A global team of engineers and makers.
50+
Trusted worldwide. Machines in over 50 countries.

Voices & Experiences

Metaproductions GmbH
Elias Kaiser
Working with Lab 1887 within Jakob Müller AG was a truly eye-opening experience. It created a space where we could step outside of our usual routines, look at challenges from new angles, and make decisions that had previously felt stuck. The process not only unlocked new possibilities for our team but also gave us the confidence to pursue them. I personally grew a lot during this time — I gained new methods, fresh perspectives, and a renewed sense of curiosity. Lab 1887 has shown what’s possible when innovation is made part of everyday work.

Being part of a project with Lab 1887 was one of the most valuable experiences I’ve had at Jakob Müller AG. The lab gave us the space to think differently — outside the usual processes and hierarchies. It opened up possibilities we hadn’t considered before, and helped us approach problems in a more focused and collaborative way. Thanks to this environment, we were able to make clear decisions that had been difficult to tackle in the past. Personally, I learned a lot — not just new tools and methods, but also a new mindset when it comes to innovation and change.

Max Johnson
Our partnership with Jakob Müller AG has always been strong, but working with Lab 1887 brought our collaboration to an entirely new level. The lab team brought a fresh, agile mindset to the table — they listened closely, challenged assumptions, and co-developed solutions with real impact. It felt less like a supplier relationship and more like a true innovation partnership.
What also stands out is the Customer Center. The openness, professionalism, and technical expertise we encountered there made a lasting impression. Together, Lab 1887 and the Customer Center reflect what Jakob Müller AG does best: combining tradition with forward-thinking energy
